The Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist performs activities related to marketing LAVTA services. Role responsibilities include development and maintenance of transit programs, maintaining public information and transit planning channels, coordinating ridership and community outreach projects, and digital platform administration. Activities performed include creating advertising, customer collateral and public information materials including agency coordination, managing websites and social media, executing ridership promotions, and participating in community events.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Marketing

  • Coordinate creative and traffic all in-house advertising media buys, traditional and digital.
  • Day-to-day coordination with advertising agency for advertising, collateral, and signage.
  • Maintains media libraries, including advertising, brand materials and photography.
  • Review of brand and content guideline adherence on all materials.
  • Coordinate researching, ordering, production, shipping, and inventory maintenance of collateral and program materials.
  • Management and audit of facilities and vehicle advertising partnerships.
  • Management and audit of internal bus “car card” advertising program including content, inventory, scheduling, and installation coordination.
  • Manage selection, purchasing, shipping and inventory maintenance of promotional items.

Digital Media

  • Administers website through content management system (CMS) WordPress and designing the user interface and experience (UI/UX)
  • Maintains transit blog.
  • Utilizes social media tools to post content to all authorized channels.
  • Maintains calendars and schedules for content distribution.
  • Administers paid media and post promotion.
  • Performs analysis of digital usage and provides recommendations.

Public Information and Trip Planning

  • Assist in the development of public information and associated distribution channels.
  • Coordinate regular updates of timetables, system maps, and rider guides.
  • Coordinate translation services.
  • Coordinate the development of way-finding and regulatory signage.
  • Coordinate the development and installation of bus shelter static information.
  • Assist planning and operations staff in coordination of detour and deviation information for special events; produce public notices/bus stop closure alerts and online Rider Alerts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, with clear and concise style, strong grammar, editorial and proofreading abilities.
  • Ability to make effective public presentations.
  • Utilization of common software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.
  • Web publishing includes basic graphic design, content management systems and social media platform administration.
  • Strong research, analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to present data to management in structured reports and presentations.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate projects including vendor management.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, working effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work and interact professionally and collaboratively with others.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of visual design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite/Canva
  • Content and paid media management using Meta Business Suite
  • GTFS administration

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a current, valid California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record (periodically drives LAVTA vehicles).

Organizational Relationships

  • Position reports directly to the LAVTA Director of Customer Experience

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related field.

Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in marketing, communications, or customer service, or three (3) years’ experience plus an equivalent combination of education and experience.
